Volunteer Opportunities
Salford CVS and Volunteer Centre are developing a network of Community Champions to identify and address some of the issues and challenges relating to COVID and the impact of
the COVID Pandemic in our City. Community Champions are volunteers who work together, share ideas and create their own solutions to tackle some of the issues in our communities.
Community Champions are supported by the Neighbourhood team at Salford CVS.
Purpose of the Role
The main purpose of the role of Equality & Diversity Champions is to contribute to making local communities more equal, welcoming places where people feel confident that they belong and are comfortable mixing and interacting with others in the community. Equality is about ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to make the most of their lives and talents irrespective of their age, race, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
The activities and specific tasks of the role will be decided by the Community Champions themselves with support from the Neighbourhood team at Salford CVS. However, the Equality & Diversity Champion role may include the following:
Attending meetings facilitated by the Neighbourhood team at Salford CVS
Listening to guest speakers who are invited to the meeting to help inform your role as a Community Champion
Sharing ideas to address issues around equality and diversity and deciding how as a team you will take the ideas forward
Challenging stereotypes
Raising awareness of prejudice, discrimination & hate crime
Increasing awareness about inequalities experienced by some members of our communities
Improving understanding of different faiths and beliefs
Organising community events to bring people together
Tackling issues related to poverty
