New community publication for Salford - the Salford Post

A new monthly community newspaper for the city will be launching next month. The Salford Post is run by a community interest company on a not-for-profit basis and all of its news content is provided by volunteers and community groups and members.

The publication will join established titles the Stockport Post and Manchester Post. The aim is to bridge the gap in providing local, community-based news that isn’t being met by traditional media like the MEN.

More from the founders:

Details around content deadlines/submission - we are aiming for an April launch which, unless we can find some financial support, will be online only initially with the aim to get into print within the first three months.

  • Content deadline: always the 7th of the month
  • Publication: always the first Thursday of the following month
  • Article word limit: 250 words. This can be sent directly to us in a word or pdf file, or the online submission form can be completed.
  • Photographs/graphics: guarantee one image or graphic that we would have permission to publish - we will include more alongside the article should we have the space. These can be sent as original, full-size jpg or pdf files (uncropped and not reduced on size)
  • Contact Information: Where applicable, we ask that articles include a relevant contact email and phone number

So for the first issue of Salford Post, the content deadline will be 7 March with the issue out on Thursday 4 April - there will be some flexibility on the deadline but we try to stick as close to the 7th of the month as possible.

Our online submission form may be preferred by some as it guides contributors through all the information required. This can be found on our website at: https://communitynewsgm.co.uk/submit-an-article/

Should any organisations wish to register for monthly reminders as content deadlines are approaching, they can register their email address here.

Once in print, we will be looking for local venues across Salford who would be happy to be a stockist for their community. With each of our other Posts, we have connections with the library teams to ensure supplies get into all local libraries, and also any community hubs, leisure centres etc. We then also look to local service providers who have public-facing premises, cultural venues, co-working spaces and local businesses.

And just to reiterate - we only charge for commercial content, or where an organization has a budget for communication/promotion, particularly around funded projects, campaigns and events as this is our main source of funding.

We are a registered Community Interest company (CIC) and so all our operations are not-for-profit. Our most recent Social Impact Report can be found here - this does need updating as we have launched into Posts for additional areas since this was last published in 2023.
