First you must be registered to vote which only takes a few minutes and your national insurance number. If you’re not going to be around on polling day you can apply for a postal vote or a proxy vote, before Wednesday 26 June, which is when you ask someone you trust to cast your vote for you.
To vote in a polling station, you must show an acceptable form of photo ID and if you don’t have one, apply online by Wednesday 26 June for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC).
If you need help accessing the government portal for a VAC, please pop into your local gateway centre, a one stop shop for a wide range of council and community services. Located across Salford in Swinton, Eccles, Pendleton, Walkden and Broughton they have free internet and are open late every weekday.
