Here at Salford CVS, we have compiled a directory of local and national helplines and services, which may be of use to the people your organisation works with and supports. The directory is organised thematically, with information available on bereavement, business support, children and young people, carers, disability and autism, food banks and clubs, health conditions, homelessness, LGBTQ+, mental health, older people, recovery and addiction and victim support. Manchester Jewish Community Services Directory

The Federation of Jewish Services (The Fed) has researched and published the Manchester Jewish Services Directory on behalf of the Manchester Jewish Community Strategic Group. The directory is a one-stop-shop for community support and has details of 39 vital organisations. This directory was originally published in 2020 and an updated version will be published in early 2022.

Salford Foodbank

Salford Foodbank will be offering a limited service between Christmas and New Year.

Salford Foodbank centres will be closed from 2.00pm on Friday 24th December until Tuesday 4th January 2022.

However, Swinton and Walkden Gateways and Broughton Hub will be open on 29th, 30th and 31st of December from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Foodbank Voucher Codes will be honoured at these three venues..

Wood Street Mission

In December 2021 Wood Street Mission are currently only receiving referrals for the Christmas project and the Family Basics service will resume in the New Year. 

At Christmas Wood Street Mission can help with gifts for your children. You need to be referred to Wood Street Mission by a professional who knows your family’s circumstances well – for example, someone at your child’s school, a social worker, health visitor, midwife, or support worker. They will need to send us a form which they can find on the For Referrers page.

Citizens Advice Salford are able to provide advice over the phone, via their website, by email and face-to-face with services running across Salford. Find details of which services are available close to you here.

Telephone services are open Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm on Freephone 0808 278 7802, or you can use the email service here.

Mind in Salford

Mind know that the festive period can be a difficult time, so they are putting on a number of online drop in mindfulness sessions over this time covering a variety of topics, with no sign up required.

Salford City Council Services

From 4.30pm on Thursday 24 December 2020 until 8.30am on Monday 4 January 2021 most of our customer services will not be available. This includes web chats, social media, telephone enquiries and delays to some online services.

If you have an emergency during this period, please call our out of hours team on 0161 794 8888.

Emergency communications will be issued in the event of a major incident.

The Spirit of Salford helpline will be open on:

Test and Trace Support Payment

Salford residents who have received a notification to self-isolate from NHS Test and Trace on or after 28 September 2020 may be eligible for a test and trace support payment of £500. People can apply for this payment if they can demonstrate that ALL five of the following criteria apply to them:

  1. I have received an NHS Test and Trace notification on or after Monday 28 September 2020 either because I have tested positive for coronavirus or have recently been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.
  2. I am currently employed or self-employed.
  3. I am unable to work from home.
  4. I will lose income during the period that I am required to self-isolate.
  5. I am currently in receipt of Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, income-based Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit and/or Pension Credit.

If you feel unwell over the holidays your first call should be to NHS 111. This is free to call from landlines and mobiles, open 24 hours, seven days a week. Your symptoms will be assessed on the call and you will be advised where to go if you need further advice / treatment, such as an out-of-hours GP or pharmacy.

Winter Fun Activities

Come and join our fantastic free winter fun sessions during the Christmas school holidays! There is craft, dance, drama, baking, football, rugby, gym and swim passes, skateboarding, Panto and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at The Lowry. All sessions are free, they include lunch and are delivered by brilliant local Salford organisations and community groups. There are lots of sessions available in all areas of the city. The sessions are for children eligible for free school meals in school years from Reception to Year 11.
