Wellbeing Champions in Care Homes

Our Volunteering in Care Homes project enabled Care Homes to recruit and manage volunteers to assist the Activities Co-ordinator to provide social activities for their elderly residents. The programme has been on hold since the covid virus outbreak

The pilot project evolved from an initiative to support two care homes to recruit volunteers and as the initiative proved successful and was expanded across Salford.

Volunteers were supported by our Volunteer Co-ordinator through our training and support programme. This enabled them to learn new skills, meet new people and ultimately make a positive difference to people’s lives.

The project was managed by Salford Together through the Salford CVS Volunteering Co-ordinator for Care Homes.

Salford Together was a partnership between Salford City Council, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, Salford Clinical Commissioning Group, and Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The alliance has developed an Integrated Care Programme for Older People in Salford. Part of this programme involves improving the quality of life for residents in care homes.

The monitoring informed an evaluation report which can be viewed here.
