A Guide to Cultural Consciousness

Salford Safeguarding Children’s Partnership’s 'A Guide to Cultural Consciousness' is quite an interactive, thought-provoking resource for practitioners working with children, young people and families.

Being ‘culturally conscious’ means having the knowledge and skills to be aware of one’s own cultural values and those of others and the implications of these in making respectful, reflective and reasoned choices. What it doesn’t have to mean is being highly knowledgeable about the cultures of the children and families we work with, but approaching culturally different people with openness and respect, and a willingness to learn.
