Organisation description: By harnessing the power of music, we help break through the barriers caused by life-limiting illness, disability and social isolation. Our work can be life-changing, from an adult with dementia reconnecting with family to a child with autism finding their voice. We work in a range of settings inclusive of special schools, mainstream schools, hospitals, care homes, homeless shelters, refugee centres and neuro-rehabilitation.
The ability to respond to music is universal, but the way we react is unique to our personality and circumstances. By making music together, then tuning into people’s individual responses, music therapists create a platform for connection and self-expression. The positive impact on physical, social, mental and emotional wellbeing can be transformative.
Over the last couple of years, we have been increasing our presence in Salford and have run consultations and taster sessions with the community. We currently have a partnership with BASIC (Brain and Spinal Injury Clinic) in Salford and are keen to explore opportunities to expand on our services in the area, particularly with Social Prescribing. We are also members of the Salford Creative Health network and have been involved in the Salford Creative Mixers.
