Description:

As an Advice Caseworker, you will support the Case Work Coordinators in delivering our advice service to clients. You will do this by working with clients on tasks the coordinators allocate. These tasks may include:

• Supporting clients with various immigration application forms under the supervision of OISC-accredited staff
• Supporting clients in completing Universal Credit applications and managing their Universal Credit accounts.
• Supporting clients to apply for other benefits including child benefits.
• Supporting clients in managing their Manchester Move accounts and 'bid' for housing.
• Completing client referrals to hostels and night shelters.
• Supporting clients with school admissions applications.
• Supporting clients in managing their utility payments.
• Supporting clients in applying for replacement ID cards online.
• Writing letters for clients, for example, to show they are accessing the service at Revive.
• Providing information to clients as required.
• Researching information on the internet.
• Assisting clients with other tasks as required.

Skills and qualifications that may be needed or developed:

• Good level of English language - spoken and written.
• Ability to learn systems quickly and work on own initiative.
• IT skills – ability to use the internet, fill in forms online and use Microsoft Office.
• Interest in developing skills around giving advice.
• Understanding of the needs of refugees, asylum-seekers and other migrants.
• Experience in dealing with complex legislation or the ability to do so.
• Ability to work in a non-judgemental manner with individuals from various backgrounds.
• Ability to work with an empowering and non-directive approach.
• Knowledge of the UK benefits system and/or housing providers and/or the asylum system would be beneficial but not essential.
