Overview of Transforming Lives Group (TLG)
Transforming Lives Group (TLG) is a community-led organisation in Bolton, dedicated to supporting individuals who have faced challenges such as substance misuse, homelessness, and mental health issues. Since 2014, we have been providing safe, inclusive spaces where people can regain their confidence, improve their mental and physical well-being, and become active members of their community. Our non-prescriptive approach focuses on personal autonomy and empowerment through a range of physical activities, including walking football, boxing, and mountain biking.
Recently, TLG has reached a significant milestone by securing funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to employ our first paid member of staff. This is an exciting step in our development, allowing us to strengthen our infrastructure and deepen our impact on the hundreds of people who rely on our support. The role of our Operations & Engagement Officer will be pivotal in helping us grow and ensuring the organisation runs smoothly, enabling us to continue making a positive difference in the lives of those often overlooked by traditional services.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who shares our passion for community-driven support and understands the vital role administration plays in helping an organisation like TLG thrive. The ideal candidate will bring the following qualities and skills:
- Skillful communicator: Able to engage with a variety of stakeholders, from group participants and volunteers to partners, funders, and the wider public.
- Organised with numbers: Confident in handling basic bookkeeping tasks, ensuring financial records are accurate and well-maintained.
- Competent in social media: Comfortable using platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram to help promote TLG’s activities and amplify our message.
- Experience in funding applications: Knowledge of how to identify, apply for, and monitor funding opportunities, ensuring we remain financially sustainable.
- Brilliant storyteller: Able to articulate the incredible impact TLG has on individuals and communities through various forms of communication.
- Lived experience (desirable but not essential): We welcome applicants who have personal experience aligned with our mission and can bring valuable insights to the role.

Job Description
Job Title: Operations & Engagement Officer
Contract: Part-time, 10.5 hours per week (days and hours negotiable)
Pay: £12.21 per hour in line with the Real Living Wage and employers pension contribute (TBC)
Contract Duration: Initial fixed term of 6 months, with the possibility of extension
Location: Bolton. You can work remotely from home or other location whilst having the option to take some of our partner organisations up on their offer to ‘hot desk’ At times you Will be required to work from the office.
Reporting to: Board of Directors though working closing with our Founder, Andrew Farnworth, on a regular basis.
Role Overview
The Operations & Engagement Officer will play a crucial role in the next phase of TLG’s growth, providing essential support to ensure the smooth running of our activities, events, and financial systems. This is more than just a ‘desk job’—it is a critical post that will help drive the continued success of TLG, allowing us to reach and support more vulnerable people across Bolton.
Main Duties:
- Basic bookkeeping: Oversee day-to-day financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Financial management: Support the setup and maintenance of basic financial management systems to ensure the organisation's sustainability and transparency.
- Event and activity coordination: Assist in the organisation and running of regular activities and events, ensuring everything runs smoothly and to plan.
- Funding support: Research, identify, and apply for potential funding opportunities, ensuring applications are submitted on time and in line with funder requirements.
- Monitoring and reporting: Submit any required monitoring or outcome reports to funders as needed.
- Communications: Help promote TLG’s work by managing social media accounts and liaising with local media to share stories of our impact. This includes creating engaging content that reflects our mission and achievements.
- General support: Assist the Board of Directors with any additional administrative tasks or projects that arise as part of TLG’s day-to-day operations.
- Being competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is a requirement for this role.
