Early Intervention and Prevention Worker

To support the roll out of targeted work with identified Year 7 students (in the first instance) who are struggling emotionally and are displaying difficult / risk taking behaviours, and require additional support as they transition to secondary school. The focus is to prevent the escalation anti-social behaviour, exploitation, criminality, violence or exclusion occurring. This role will also support the wider Early Break Vaping work delivering education, harm reduction messages to young people across Rochdale. This work will be offered on an individual and group basis. You will complete assessments, deliver trauma responsive interventions and signposting to build on the emotional health and well-being of young people. A focus will be to develop coping strategies and life skills whilst addressing the vaping needs. This will be offered utilising Early Break statements of practice and developing the interventions for this. 

Key deliverables

  • Offer a range of individualised and groupwork sessions to support young peoplewho are displaying difficult / risk taking behaviours and need additional support with the transition to secondary school and to prevent the escalation of anti-social behaviour, criminality  and violent behaviours.
  • To complete assessments, deliver trauma responsive interventions and signposting to young people to support reduction in anxiety and conflict, increase confidence, build resilience and coping strategies so children have positive relationships with their high school deterring from exploitation, gang engagement and school exclusions.
  • Support and encourage young people to take on board safety messages in regards risk and own vulnerabilities (such as: substance use, offending behaviour, exploitation etc.)
  • To support wider Vaping work across Rochdale and other Early Break localities. 
  • Prepare, plan and deliver education sessions and group work to young people in education settings as per presenting need.
  • Contribute to the on-going development of the SYV early intervention and prevention project helping build stronger pathways between agencies supporting wider Rochdale and Greater Manchester Violence Reduction work.
  • Share intelligence brought by young people within their sessions to support deliver of targeted outreach and to build on a visible community presence.  
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary school team as well as a wider substance-use and emotional health and wellbeing team to support emotional wellbeing of children and young people
  • Adhere to early break policies on safeguarding including identification and referral, as well as participating in any subsequent action in relation to these.
  • Work with a range of partners in ensuring seamless access to support for children and young people.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and training as required/appropriate to update and maintain levels of knowledge and understanding of issues relevant to young people’s lives through reading, eLearning and training offered by early break and other agencies. 
  • Ensure all necessary administration/sessional recordings are complete, including maintenance of service database. 
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the work of the role and the service.
  • Implement service health and safety policy/service guidelines including risk assessments.
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings supportive to the role. 
  • Have an understanding of GDPR and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Adhering to all other relevant policies and practice relevant to the role.
