What is a trustee?
Charities have a governing body which is made up of volunteers called trustees, the term trustee is often used interchangeably with director, but more frequently volunteers on a board of a charity are known as trustees. Trustees are responsible for the general administration and running of a charity, this gives trustees the opportunity to shape the overall direction of a charity.
Trustees are at the heart of a charity
Becoming a trustee is a very good way to help your community or a community of interest, it’s also an opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and understand the difference charities make on a daily basis while giving back to the community. It’s a dynamic role carried out by people from all walks of life. It is essentially teamwork with a group of like-minded people, the role of trustee places you at the heart of the charity.
The board of trustees should have a wide-ranging overview of the charities activity, most boards will have a variety of skills and different experiences including; HR, marketing, finance, administration along with other general and specialist skills and experiences.
