Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week (5th – 11th February 2024).
No one should face hate, violence or abuse because of their identity, sexual orientation, nationality, appearance, or beliefs. If you experience hate crime you can report it directly to the police or at a local community reporting centre.
Salford CVS have awarded Hate Crime Awareness Funding to the below projects which will run throughout the week and beyond:

Deans Youth Centre
Working alongside an animation facilitator young people will create web content for their media channels.
Flowhesion Foundation
An experienced female hate crime bi-lingual facilitator will run workshops which have a theoretical and practical aspect. The workshop will invite participants to think about their perceptions of hate crime, Inform them of current legislation, structures around reporting, possible barriers or stigma they reel in reporting incidents and the types of experiences they may have had.
Bridgewater Youth Centre
A LGBTQ+ youth group which will explore homophobia and transphobia. The group will create a film explaining what hate crime is, the 7 protected characteristics, how to report a hate crime. This project will also be a space for people to share personal stories.
Gaydio
Gaydio are linking up with Salford Hate Crime Reporting Centre. The centre will be used as a venue to invite people connected with reporting and reducing hate crime, such as representatives of Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Police, for an interview panel. There will be the opportunity for both a panel session and individual interviews. All aspects of hate crime that specifically relate to the LGBTQ+ community that we serve, including explaining what hate crime is, how it can be reported, why it is important to do so, and the available support services.
Friends of Chimney Pot Park
A Hate Crime awareness event on the park during HCAW week. The event will focus mainly on the LGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities.
Community Little Hulton
Two Canva workshops. During the sessions participants will design promotional material for HCAW including a postcard a design for a reusable bag and a social media post.
Beacon Centre
Youth workers will be working closely with the Young Women’s Space group to deliver a hate crime project based on LGBT and racism specifically. The girls will write a song, design canvases and deliver a small role-play show to a group of people to highlight the importance of why people should be kinder and the effects it has on people when they are victims of hate crime.
Salford Council Children’s Services
A Friday evening project where the youth group will focus on everyday issues/concerns and problems young people face within the community around Hate Crime. The project will last the month of Feb.
Salford City Radio
Radio adverts asking for local people if they would like to get involved in raising awareness of Hate Crime by joining the radio station in creating a week of hate crime awareness shows. There will be a day of discussions on to raise awareness of hate crime and how it is reported.
Europia
A training event for Europia’s volunteers from the central and eastern community to understand Hate Crime and learn how to report it.
They will also run an inclusive gathering offering food, interactive workshops, quizzes and awareness. on 14th February. Find full details below.
