Salford Communities Events Group
Categories of Work: Lunch clubs, Social activities
Who do you work with?: All Client Groups
Organisation description: 1. To reduce social isolation of Salford’s most vulnerable community members
2. To arrange social gatherings to bring the community together to interact with each other and engage support of agencies who can provide further support
3. To provide warm food and entertainment to vulnerable community members referred to the group by relevant agencies
4. Promoting equality and equality of opportunities for all.
We have run a number of very successful events for pensioners over the last year. Beneficiaries are invited to attend from various agencies in contact with older Salford residents suffering from deprivation and/or isolation, such as Age Concern, Salford Loaves and Fishes, the Yemini Community Association etc. We bring vulnerable older people together in a celebration of community. Donations from local residents pay for most of our activities. This includes paying for the rent of venues such as Eccles Town Hall, food from local businesses and gifts for participants. Local businesses provide food and gifts in kind. Local agencies attend to explain services they provide and to sign older people up to benefits such as Pension Credits.
