Organisation description: Since 1978 we have been working to deliver food, farming and countryside experiences to children whose potential is only limited by their access to opportunities. Our aim is to connect children with the land that sustains us all and we do this through four key programmes and a campaign: Farm Discovery Day Visits; Countryside Discovery Residentials; Food Discovery programmes teaching children to grow, cook and explore food; Farm in a Box, bringing the farm to the classroom; and Plant Your Pants Soil Health Campaign.
The human race depends upon the natural world for survival. However, there is no consistent provision (in terms of resource or structure) in our education system to allow for every child to discover the land that sustains us all and to explore first-hand the fundamental connection between the way we live, our own health and the health of the planet. Children, particularly the most disadvantaged, are therefore ill-equipped to grow to actively contribute to, and unable to benefit from, a thriving society and planet, which further contributes to the crises we face.
