Organisation description: Goofus Theatre CIC is a not-for-profit touring theatre company creating original pieces with mask, puppetry, clowning, play and music. We specialise in taking theatre to audiences that would otherwise not get to experience the joy of sharing a live show. Audiences such as those living with dementia, at risk of social isolation, in hospital and children and adults with additional needs.
We believe theatre performances should have no borders. We believe access to our style of performance is for all ages, all backgrounds, everywhere. We believe in a theatre that is mischievous, funny, strange, moving, fantastical, surreal and dreamlike. We love folktales, myth and magic.
Our aims are to:
-Improve access to the arts, particularly puppet theatre, for those not currently engaging with this form.
-Produce high quality live arts events and participatory art activities for a wide range of audiences including children and families.
-Prioritise working in areas of social deprivation and with current low levels of arts engagement.
-Empower people by bringing them into the creative process. Share learning with participants, collaborators and the wider arts community.
We have worked with various organisations and community venues across Salford to bring theatre to people living with dementia, their carers and families. Organisations such as Age UK (Salford), Northern Care Alliance and Dementia United. So far we have performed to audiences at dementia cafes, care facilities and Salford Royal Hospital.
