Organisation description: Our IntoUniversity centre offers a safe space to learn, explore and succeed. We believe in the importance of supporting young people in their communities. Our multi-stranded programme includes after-school Academic Support sessions helping young people with their school work; one-to-one mentoring opportunities with university students or corporate volunteers; a series of aspiration-raising workshops in partnership with local schools, universities and businesses; and career insight opportunities, including insight sessions and work experience.
We are looking for volunteers for two of our programmes: mentoring and academic support.
Mentoring:
We match IntoUniversity students with volunteers attending either the University of Salford or the University of Manchester, who act as positive role models and provide opportunities for the mentees to develop their social skills, explore future options and improve academic attainment. Young people benefit from regular one-to-one support from a role model who can offer invaluable advice and guidance.
Academic Support:
You will be supporting students with either their homework, revision, study skills or with IntoUniversity’s structured curriculum. Sessions are free and take place after school in our local learning centres. Depending on the session, you may work one-to-one or with a group of students. We have separate Academic Support sessions depending on the age of students. This is a once a week commitment for an academic term or for 12 sessions across the academic year. Volunteering takes place at the following times, with some variation at individual centres:
- Monday and Thursday for students aged 11-17 (England) and 12-18 (Scotland): 3.45pm-5.30pm
- Tuesday and Wednesday for students aged 7-11 (England) and 7-12 (Scotland): 3pm-5pm
