Organisation description: Talk changes is a Mental Health service that aims to help those that are in need. With over 20 years of experience, we understand that we are all connected - connected by emotion, experience and communication. We are currently delivering Counselling/Psychotherapy sessions within Bolton with the aim of improving mental ill-health so our clients are able to live healthier, independent and well-balanced lives. Our vision is to empower people by gaining confidence and independence, to overcome mental ill-health and take control of their lives.
Talk Changes was registered as a CIO on 7th July 2020. Since that time we have developed our social media to currently having an impressive 22,900 followers on Instagram and we are constantly active (@Talk__Changes). We receive a great number of enquiries and referrals through this platform as well as advertising through other platforms. We are hoping to increase our communication with local schools so they can promote in their newsletters as well as local GPs, the CCG and other local charities and organisations. We are hoping to get the community to start talking about mental health and reduce any stigma attached around depression, anxiety, suicide, trauma and domestic violence.
The effects of COVID-19 has seen an increase of individuals suffering from Mental ill health such as stress, social anxiety, panic attacks and many more issues. There has been an increase of women affected by Domestic Abuse which has thus left more women at risk. There has also been an increase in anxiety and depression with many not finding the courage to leave their homes. There have also been those that have lost their loved ones during this time and we have seen a drastic increase in individuals that require bereavement counselling.
We offer a confidential Counselling/Psychotherapy service where we run 1:1 session, group sessions and workshops around Mental Health. There are many individuals who are; hoping to gain more confidence and self-awareness, bereaved, isolated, suffering loss of income and fears. These are all triggering mental health conditions or exacerbating existing ones.
This funding would allow us to continue our service delivery at such an important time where so many require mental health support. We intend to start a telephone support line for those who have been affected by Covid-19, whether this has been through isolation, loneliness, anxiety, complete change from the lifestyle they were living pre-Covid. Through this support line we will offer basic coping techniques, check that the person is looking after their physical and mental well-being.
As restrictions are being lifted in the UK we hope to run workshops and group sessions that allow individuals to feel connected and become physically and mentally active. We hope to organise and deliver walk and talk sessions where you get to discuss mental health issues whilst staying active. We also hope to deliver sessions on ways to cope with bereavement as this has been a subject that requires more focus within the community.
