Organisation description: The Salford Families in need Meals Project (SFinMP) exists to benefit those Salford Families who do not have the means to feed their youngsters. Our initial plan grew out of Antony Edkins' support for such Salford families in previous years, especially in 2020. In 2021, SFinMP was formed with a small project team to scale up that support to feed more families in need at Easter & at Christmas. We needed to raise £5000 - we reached £4000 in just two weeks. Since the launch of SFinMP, we have scaled up our project again. In 2021, we will be able to feed 300 families for a week at Easter and at Christmas. This is because we have partnered with 'This Bread and Butter Thing' (TBBT), who will feed eligible families for a week at a cost of £7.50
We are ambitious. We want to raise £30,000 so that we can create a TBBT distribution hub in Barton Moss that will feed a 'family in need' each week for a cost of £7.50. SFinMP isn't just about 2021 - its about creating a sustainable food supply for those who need it most for as long as they need it. We want SFinMP to have a legacy footprint in Salford. Finally, meet the project team: Julie Larkinson (food source expert), Tom Marsden (lead fundraiser), Victoria Unsworth (distribution lead & headteacher of Barton Moss Primary School), Councillor Sammie Bellamy (Salford Councillor & community chef) and Barbara Keeley M.P (Worsley and Eccles South). The project team lead is Dr Antony Edkins (@AntonyEdkins). We are pleased to have the support and guidance of Vic from 'This Bread and Butter Thing.'
