1099 Worsley Sqadron RAF Air Training Corps
Categories of Work: Voluntary and community sector support, Youth work
Organisation description: Worsley Air Cadets are a volunteer youth group for young people who can join from the ages of 13 to 17 and can stay on until their 20th birthday. Young people in school year 8 can also join as they would be 13 in that academic year. We are supported by the Royal Air Force and the Ministry of Defence. The Air Cadets belong to a national organisation and there are many squadrons local to many areas who have their own governance, financial independence and committees. Each squadron takes part in many activities that encourage a practical interest in Aviation, provide training that will be useful in both service and civilian life and to foster the spirit of adventure and develop the qualities of leadership and skills of good citizenship. We are a busy and active squadron who parade each Wednesday and Friday evening 7.30pm - 10pm with activities most weekends. We run our own sports leaders awards, first aid and health and safety courses, take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and train cadets to qualify for BTEC awards in aviation studies and public service diplomas. We also have a busy aeronautical training programme, marching drum and trumpet band and take part in many community parades and activities. The squadron itself is based in Little Hulton but we do take young people from many Salford areas.
