The aim of this course is
To provide sufficiently qualified or experienced candidates with the threshold teaching qualification.
This course will help you to
• Understand your own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
• Understand teaching and learning approaches in your specialist area
• Demonstrate session planning skills
• Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
• Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping
Who should attend?
People considering teaching or teachers who are new to employment in the lifelong learning sector - further and higher education, adult and community education, work based learning, private training.
Previous teaching experience is not essential.

Trainer profile
Hazel Payg from the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) will facilitate the course. WEA is the UK’s largest voluntary sector provider of adult learning.
Assessment and certification
Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) City and Guilds 7303: Level 3. Assessment will be through a variety of written assignments plus a ‘micro’ teaching session.
Date and time
This is a 30 hour programme, which runs over 6 weekly sessions from 22nd February 2011 to 29th March 2011 (9.30am - 3.00pm each Tuesday).

PTLLS is the new minimum requirement for people who wish to teach in post-16 education; it is the first step to a full teacher qualification.
