Introduction:
As per the 2021 Greater Manchester's State of the Sector Report, the Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Greater Manchester had 75,610 paid employees and a staggering 496,609 volunteers.
In collaboration with the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, 10GM has been delivering over the last year a comprehensive VCSE Workforce Development project.
The project seeks to address critical aspects identified in the 2021 State of the VCSE Sector report, focusing on HR support, recruitment, inclusion, personal development, leadership, and wellbeing for those in our sector.
Project Objectives:
The overarching goal of the VCSE Workforce Development project is to enhance capacity, capability, and employment standards across Greater Manchester's VCSE sector.
To achieve this, the project has been conducting further research, developing a shared GM VCSE recruitment and job advertisement portal, establishing a workforce development hub, and
Workshops and Professional Development:
Within the project, there has been a range of learning and professional development workshops
and activities to increase the capability in the VCSE sector to support and nurture the workforce,
cultivating talent, and sharing insight, tools and approaches.
Research:
The project has been committed to understanding the sector's diversity, pay, and condition, through
collaborating and engaging with the sector in GM. The findings have helped shape future initiatives
and how the rest of the project has been developed.
VCSE Recruitment Portal:
Anticipating a launch, the VCSE Recruitment Portal will serve as a crucial bridge connecting the workforce of
Greater Manchester with opportunities within the sector. This portal will allow VCSE organisations to advertise
jobs in one centralised location, avoiding having to pay recurrent fees across multiple platforms to advertise.
Workforce Development Hub:
A collaborative space is being created to share best practices, encourage collaboration, and provide support
within the VCSE sector. This hub will foster the growth of professional networks, nurturing an environment of
collective learning.
HR Support:
Recognizing the importance of a robust HR framework, the project has surveyed VCSE organisations in GM to
see what HR needs they have, which has culminated in a HR shared-service offer being developed.
Greater Manchester's VCSE Workforce Development Project signifies a commitment to building a resilient, skilled, and inclusive workforce. In the near future, the programme will be launching the workforce hub, and job advertisement portal, which we will make sure you hear about!
