6 Salford GP Practices Gain Pride in Practice Award

6 Salford GP practices are congratulated for demonstrating their commitment to equalities by gaining the Pride in Practice award for delivering an inclusive healthcare service to their patients:

PiP
  • The Gill Medical Centre, Walkden
  • Gannvir Practice, Eccles
  • The Homeless Medical Project
  • Salford 1, Langworthy
  • Little Hulton Health Centre
  • Willow Tree Healthy Living Centre

Pride in Practice, delivered by The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Foundation, is a quality assurance support service that strengthens and develops a GP Practice’s relationship with their lesbian, gay and bisexual patients. Pride in Practice is delivered in Salford in partnership with Salford CVS who provide support to local charities, community groups and social enterprises and have recruited volunteers to work on this project. Salford Pride in Practice has been funded by NHS Salford CCG. Salford CVS Chief Executive, Alison Page highlighted the importance of the award for Salford residents:

“Lesbian, gay and bisexual patients do not always feel confident in being open about their sexuality to their healthcare provider and this can be a barrier to the provision of excellent health care. Salford CVS is keen to promote equality of access to healthcare and to support more GP Practices in gaining the award.”

The Practice Manager for the Gill Medical Practice, Kate Armitage, was new in post when she embarked on Pride in Practice.

"We are dedicated to supporting diversity within the practice and we are proud to display the award in our waiting room."

Dr Casey commented

"The practice is delighted to have received a Pride in Practice award. All staff at the Gill are committed to supporting the diverse needs of the local community and the award underlines this."

Four of the practices achieving the Gold award are run by Salford Health Matters social enterprise.

Kathy McGuirk, The LGBT Foundation’s Project Manager of Pride in Practice added

“All 6 GP Practices should be widely celebrated for their award which demonstrates that positive patient experience and equality are at the heart of their service delivery. Congratulations to all 6 teams. We look forward to working with more Salford GP Practices in the coming months!”
