Sightline has launched a free and innovative befriending service for people with sight loss.
The service is available to adults across North West England, who have sight loss, and who may benefit from a regular chat with somebody.
Sightline’s fully trained befrienders are available 7 days a week and may cover any time from 8am to 10pm. People are matched with a befriender, based on a variety of factors (eg, interests, hobbies and availability), and develop a regular confidence-building befriending relationship over the phone. Befriending services are a great way to alleviate loneliness, improve mental stimulation, and boost wellbeing. Befriending is also great for that of volunteers. Sightline's systems have been designed to reflect the fact that most of their trained befrienders have direct, family or work-based experience of sight loss. All of their training and peer support is designed around the needs of people with sight loss.
