The tenth Annual Heart of Salford Awards took place at Buile Hill Park Hall on the 18th November 2013. This prestigious event was attended by over 140 guests, including volunteers, community and voluntary organisations and the Ceremonial Mayor and Mayoress of Salford.
The event was hosted by Salford CVS and Volunteer Centre Salford and was held to celebrate the role which volunteering plays throughout the city. The individuals who were nominated and received awards were people who give their time freely in a range of situations, but the one thing which they all had in common was that they make a big difference to the day to day lives of people throughout the city.
It was a wonderful afternoon, everyone present heard stories that moved and inspired, and which underlined the crucial role volunteering plays in our community. Have a look through our photos of all the volunteers nominated at the Awards.

Organisation of the Year 2013
This award was open to organisations that are in or benefit the City of Salford and have gone the extra mile to make their volunteers feel valued and supported. The organisations were nominated by their volunteers.
Salford Online and Salford City Radio were joint winners
The judges thought that both organisations provide excellent examples of giving support to the community and voluntary sector in general whilst also supporting their own volunteers. They both provide opportunities to many volunteers and the volunteers concerned spoke very highly about their positive experiences with both organisations.
Volunteer of the Year Award 2013
An individual volunteer selected by the judges from the winners of categories 1-8, for giving that little bit extra to their volunteering.
The winner was Jim Vann
The judges felt that the way in which Jim gives back to his community is truly outstanding. They were impressed with the difference Jim has made to a wide range of causes, his dedication to giving vulnerable service users a better quality of life and his willingness to help with any task, whether big or small. Countless people across the City have benefitted from Jim’s help.
