What to be aware of this week... Awareness weeks, months and days can give your organisation an opportunity to raise your profile, reach new supporters and raise funds for your good cause. In the upcoming weeks there are plenty of awareness events to get involved in, including Leap Day, Great British Spring Clean and National CSE Awareness Day. We've highlighted three awareness events you may want to take part in below: Celebrate Social Prescribing Day The 12th of March represents an international annual celebration of social prescribing. With the recent publication of the NHS Long Term Plan and personalised care being marked as a priority, the NHS has promised to support at least 900,000 people to benefit from Social Prescribing by 2023. You can get involved on social media: Share your projects, photos, videos, and success with the rest of the world on the 12th of March via Twitter by using #SocialPrescribingDay. You can also host an event. More suggestions for events can be found here. March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month Raise awareness, fund research and save lives this March. Marmot Review 10 Years On Ten years after his landmark review on health inequalities in England, Professor Sir Michael Marmot, confirms that, for the first time in more than 100 years, life expectancy has failed to increase for a decade across the country, and for the poorest 10% of women it has actually declined. Over the last decade health inequalities have widened overall, and the amount of time people spend in poor health has increased since 2010. In his ground-breaking 10-year update on health inequalities, Health Equity in England: The Marmot Review 10 Years On, published by the Institute of Health Equity, today (Tuesday 25th February), Sir Michael also confirms an increase in the north/south health gap, where the largest decreases in life expectancy were seen in the most deprived 10% of neighbourhoods in the North East, and the largest increases in the least deprived 10% of neighbourhoods in London. This could be vital in making sure PCNs become more closely engaged with their local communities.
